San Francisco Premiere in Slap Skateboard Magazine

New Orleans, March 21st
For a good part of a decade, a bunch of dirtbags(including myself) get together in some city in the USA and make good times happen. This year, New Orleans was the chosen city and I decided that it would be a good opportunity to entertain the attendees with a showing of UnderSkatement.

Dudes come from all over the country-Bill is from Long Beach, CA.

The R Bar on Royal Street hosted our show.

The next night we had our annual dinner at a Mexican restaurant.

This dude makes it happen.

Adam(on right) was our host and lined up the R Bar and the restaurant. He rebuilds houses for Katrina victims and kills it on a skateboard.

4am pool party

10 dudes crammed in this van with no windows and drove straight through the night from Denver to get to New Orleans. Check out the distance.

Alex Nunez, shown below, made this beautiful shirt.

our final night, we went to a jazz club where they had free gumbo and this amazing dude celebrated his birthday singing a patsy cline song.

In January, we showed in Albuquerque, Phoenix and Tucson.
Albuquerque

Marcos Nieves, SF born and bred, now in Albuquerque.

Marcos and Ray Chavez, who runs Microwave skateshop, took Andreas to the Indian School ditch.

Andreas backside smith at a christian skatepark with terrible music.

Andreas caught me trying to get arty.

January 10th-Guild Cinema
The Guild Cinema was another great venue for us. Keif, the owner, is a great guy and has had an interesting life traveling with bands. Before our show, we watched “Control”, a biopic piece about Ian Curtis, singer of Joy Division. It was filmed in black and white and based on his wife’s memoirs. Very well done. I don’t want to ruin the ending, but the main character dies in the end.

Andreas tried to help Marcos kick the habit.

Marcos’ son Fabian.

On the way out of town, we hiked around Petroglyph National Monument and checked out some ancient graffiti.

We took a not so short-cut over the mountains to avoid the boring interstate drive. It got really snowy and we had to dodge dogs and cows but it was well worth it.

Phoenix

We met up with Rob Welsh and he took us to some of the 20+ skateparks in the Phoenix area.
January 16th-The Lucky Devil Bar. We had our show on a pull down projection screen and had a good turnout.

Joe Hammeke.

Trent from Cowtown skateshop and Wez Lundry.

Lee Bender.

Scott Copalman and ladyfriend. Copalman is in film school now and brought a film that we showed prior to UnderSkatement.

Rob Nordstrom and Hammeke.

We stayed a couple of nights with Andreas’ friend Pat and his family.

Cactus.

a Love Bowl, probably demolished by now. Did someone ever grind it?

Rob Nordstrom.
Tucson
When we arrived in Tucson, our friend Omer Kreso gave us directions to his friends house, telling us to look for smoke…

Aaron Suski, new daddy, took us to some ditches.

Doug Switalski.

Omer and Doug.

We were interviewed on a morning zoo program for a pop radio station. Andreas said “liquor and whores” on air. Listen.

Terry from “Fix-Push”-screen test at The Loft.

Another great venue and manager, Jeff Yanc.
In March, Andreas will be taking the show to the East coast as I take it to the Dirty South. In April, UnderSkatement goes to Australia. Check our tour schedule for upcoming dates.

Destination: Portland, OR.

Andreas and I stopped by the Slap offices on the way to the airport and ran into Lance Dawes and Joe Brook, two of the toughest skate photographers around.

3 hour delay at SFO…

Pat Smith, NYC ex-pat and owner of Coda Skateboards.

Jess Weinstein of adidas with his kids.

George Cutright and Andreas-virtual big game hunting.

I found this at a record store next door to the theater. The guy working there was from Grass Valley. I forgot his name…

Clinton Street Theater, Portland: December 8th.

Our friends took us to the Kennedy School, an elementary school since closed and renovated by the McMenamins to include bars (there’s one in the detention room), restaurants, theater, a hostel, and a hot pool.

Next destination: Seattle, WA

We stopped at Battleground to skate and dodge puddles. It was awesome being the only ones there.

Tell me how you really feel…

I-5 billboard. Smart.

Mt. Rainier.
Stopped in Olympia for some lunch and stumbled into a diner in which Stefan Simikich and Jay Howell were showing art:

Once in Seattle, we met Micah Shapiro from Grindline at Marginal Way, a work in progress under an overpass:

Central Cinema, Seattle: December 12th.

Mike Maniglia made: “Gusto: Grindline”.

Steve from Goods skateshop.

After the show drinks with Victor, Alethea, Micah,

and Sally.
On to Vancouver, B.C.

Our rental car told us that we had low air pressure in a tire. We pulled over and found this gigantic screw which was causing the tire to deflate at a rapid rate. We made it to a Les Schwab, where they fix flats for free in order to woo new customers. It works.

So rainy…

In Vancouver, motorcycle enthusiast and great photographer Scott Pommier put us up for several nights.

Michelle from Antisocial helped with some publicity.

They’ve got a fun indoor mini.

We visited my friend Tim Bieber of rip.tv, where we did an online interview. I grew up with Tim as a missionary child in the late 70’s in Papua New Guinea.

Trevn Sharp runs the skateboard department at rip.tv.

We went to a few art shows with Matt, Keegan and Will, then sat in the car for a half hour deciding what to do next.

Freaks come out at night.

Pressed ham for a sedate art show crowd.

Eight pack.

We figured it out: house party at Kenny’s house(in bondage vest). Keegan and Will were fiending for some ZZ Top, which we found on cassette tape in a small room at the party and blasted as loud as the little boombox could.

Corey Adams, on the right, made “Ming Juice”. He’s also the director of “Harvey Spannos”, starring Rick McCrank, which won money from Fuel TV to work on another project. Great film. See it if you haven’t.

Thanks to everyone who helped us out, provided good times and gave us a place to sleep: George and Amy in Portland; Victor and Alethea in Seattle; and Scott and Will in Vancouver.

Saturday, December 1st, we premiered at the Victoria Theatre.

Ferris Plock and Rory Sheridan. Rory gave us his “Behind the Griptape: Bobby Worrest”

Andreas and TG.

We sold out the theater.

Travis Kopach and Jimmie Armentrout. Travis edited the last three UnderSkatements and made “Isabelle”; Jimmie made “One by One”.

Gabriel Munoz and Ray Potes, stars of “One by One” and originators of Hamburgereyes.

Rodney from LOS.

Dan Nazzareta, Rob Collinson, and Laban Pheidias. Nazzareta edited the first Skatement, Collinson and Pheidias created “Awesome Time”.

George and Amy Cutright.

Andreas and Gabe Morford discuss the youtube popularity of “Fix-Push“.

John Trippe, a friend, and BJ.

Legends Tommy Guerrero and Bryce Kanights, writer/director of “Catamaran”, with new blood Jordan.

Craig Prehn, Toad and Andreas of “Fix-Push” with Jessie Van Roechoudt
Thee Oh Sees played the after-party at Cafe du Nord:

Followed by Hightower:

I was too busy to photograph all of the filmmakers in attendance, but check out Isaac McKay Randozzi’s Slap blog for more photos.
