UnderSkatement is a traveling film festival featuring short films made exclusively by skateboarders. Underskatement originated in 2001 to showcase the talents of both well-known and unknown skateboarder filmmakers. Entering this film festival doesn’t require a big name in the skateboarding world, but rather-just like skateboarding- requires creativity and imagination.
Although skateboarding is the reason we put together UnderSkatement in the first place, we hope to focus just as much on the act of filmmaking. And while we do feature skate shorts, our main goal is to promote film as a medium that is influenced by skateboarding, lending exposure to the contributing filmmakers (all skaters themselves) in the process. Our programs include narrative pieces, documentaries, music videos, experimental shorts, and more. In the past we’ve featured horror movies, sketch comedy, political commentary, satire, animation, travel documentaries, and interviews – all of it brought together through skateboarding. Whether you used to skate, currently skate, adore or abhor skateboarders, these films will entertain you.

Benny Gold’s t-shirt 2004

Chris Duncan’s t-shirt 2004
